Rob Gonsalves

Making 3-dimensional or optical illusion effect doesn't always require the environmental settings but it can also be done with paintings only. This contemporary artist and surrealist painter from Canada named Rob Gonsalves creates magical paintings using the effect called magic realism.

He expresses two subjects into one painting - and this is what magic realism is. So his painting gives us an optical illusion that looks like mixing two paintings into one canvas AND it's crazy that even with that, the subject of two painting is very clearly seen!

When he was little, he was full of imagination so he drew the buildings that was only in his imagination. Because of his love to buildings, he studied architecture in college, and worked as architect but didn't put the painting behind since it was his dream since he was child.

He was influenced by the work of Rene Magritte, a cubism and futurism artist from Belgium, and got fascinated with painting. Then he finally created his own paintings which is mixture of surrealism and architecture PLUS perspective and his unique imagination.

I liked where two paintings naturally merged into one; sometimes it's hard to tell if there is two subjects into his painting if I don't look them carefully. So please have your imagination added into his painting; you might find more than two worlds that Rob Gonsalves tried to show you.
