Milky Way Cafe

You can meet love in front of the Milky Way Cafe~ For those of K-Pop lovers! Pay attention to this posting :) Have you heard the song by 10cm called "Love in the Milky Way Cafe" (사랑은 은하수다방에서, sarangeun eunhasu dabangeseo)? This Milky Way Cafe actually existing in Hongdae!

This cafe was also featured in MBC's famous show "Infinite Challenge" (무한도전, muhan dojeon) when Haha and 10cm were collaborating to create a song. Also 10cm put the name of cafe in the song because they usually work on their songs in cafes of Hongdae.

The full name of this cafe is "Milky Way Cafe on the Montmarte" (몽마르뜨 언덕 위 은하수다방, Montmarte eondeok ui eunhasu dabang). And from their Korean name, dabang (다방) is old form of cafes in Korea, but it is more like tea house. Now original dabang is kind of hard to find in urban area, but easily can be found in countryside; and still loved by senior citizens.

It's their menu, the design is like old-fashioned notebook cover for children. I actually used those type of designed notebooks when I went to elementary school in Korea around mid 90s (my age is revealed*_*).

The interior includes with wooden walls. Normally the houses and buildings in Korea are made with cements and bricks, so it's somewhat hard to find the wooden walls.

But also one of the side of cafe does have walls made with bricks and cements!

They do have yummy foods so check this place while you're in the area :)

Location is not far from Trick Eye Museum, it's in between Hapjeong Station (line 2, green line) and Sangsu Station (line 6, brown line). It's walking distance, but in these hot weather, I would prefer to take at least some type of transportation X_x

Castle Praha

Came to Hongdae area and don't know where to go and have some drink with your friends or families or even with your loved one? Well, I'm here for you to introduce this place!

It's Castle Praha, where has amazing exterior and interior. Especially inside of the building, it really feels like I'm actually having a drink at a bar from Praha (Prague).

This is the view of during the daylight, but I'm sure you'll fall in love with it during the evening/night! It's much more prettier!

Dark beer from Czech Republic called dunkel! It's known for its rich froth just like cream , and caramel scent :)

And sausages for appetizers :) But I personally recommend only this one but you might have different taste so.. oh well.

Also the building itself is built as having architecture style of Prague, so you can feel the Prague right in the middle of Hongdae!! Yay!

It is located right in between Hapjeong Station (line 2, green line) and Sangsu Station (line 6, brown line). It's actually walking distance but you can also take subway from Hongik Univ. Station, but personally I prefer to either walk or take taxi since it won't cost too much.

Hongdae Picasso Street

In Korea, Hongdae (홍대, short form in Korean for Hongik University) is famous for their art department and ability of their students. So Hongdae area is known for place full of art and youth and these environmental influenced the students who studies art to create their own paintings over street. From mural to graffiti, all of the paintings are amazing as it is, but made the street to be stand out. And this place is called "Hongdae Picasso Street" (홍대 피카소거리, Hongdae Picasso geori)!

Here are some of the paintings:

It's located right next to the Children's Playground that I've introduced you last time, but not every paintings are located in the same area! You have to walk around the alleys to find all these paintings for the negative side of this area.

But if you're in the area on sunny days, take a camera and have little tour around the alleys. It can be a treasure hunt for the day of your life :)

Sangsu-dong Cafe Street

For all those little unique cafe lovers! Pay attention to this posting.

You can find many unique cafes including great taste of drinks and desserts after reading this post!

Exit 4 at Sangsu Station, turn left and walk about 100-200m (I would say probably 150m and about 5 minute walking), you will see a turnoff with Yeolmae Daycare Center (열매어린이집) on your right (make sure you walk in between this daycare center and chicken place). When you walk through this quiet street, you will find many unique cafes - this is "Sangsu-dong Cafe Street" (상수동 카페거리, Sangsu-dong cafe geori).

There are many streets with cafes but these cafes from Sangsu-dong Cafe Street are quite different than especially the ones near Hongik Univ. Station or Hapjeong Station - it has an atmosphere of stillness. Just because it's little away from crowded area of Hongdae, sometimes it gives feeling of being in different world while walking down the cafe street.

So if you're in the area, do check out Sangsu-dong cafe street and have a break from your busy, bustling, everyday existence :)
