How to prevent MERS

It's first time that I make posting about this category. But I kind feel sad that I had to talk about such a bad topic as my first posting.

In Korea, MERS is an epidemic and many people are concerning about this. (But personally, I hear more about them in media, but not much in daily life.. maybe unfortunately because people got used to it or maybe still unaware of it).

So what is MERS?

MERS is shorten for Middle East respiratory syndrome, and is a viral respiratory illness caused by a coronavirus (respiratory infection). This virus is same family viruses that causes the common cold.

SYMPTOMS?

Because it's in same family viruses of common cold, it primary gives symptoms of fever, cough and shortness of breath. Other symptoms may include nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Pneumonia is common because of MERS, but sometimes this may cause injury to organs such as the kidneys.

How to prevent MERS?

- Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, make sure throw away used tissues in the trash immediately and wash your hands
- Disinfect frequently touched surfaces, such as doorknobs
- Avoid touching your face, mouth and nose with unwashed hands
- Do NOT share cups, utensils or other items with sick people
